Hey There!
I'm Rich Ellis, this is my work.
A bit about Me.
I’m a Cartoonist, Storyboard Artist, and Illustrator making my home in the Midwest with my partner Grey Allison, and Cleo our cat.
I’ve been devoted to storytelling with words and pictures since childhood. I found comic books as a learning tool in my early struggles with dyslexia. They opened my world to stories and ideas far beyond the small southern towns of my youth. When I moved from South Carolina to Vermont after my parents divorce, those stories were a safe space; a friend in a strange land.
I decided to pursue my passion as my career in my teens, after a family friend arranged for me to meet with legendary comic artist Gene Colan. Generously, he gave me some of his time, some excellent advice, and encouragement. Though truthfully, it was the power of his example that set me on my path.
In 05’ I earned my B.F.A., graduating with honors from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Shortly afterward, I moved from small town Vermont to the Pacific Northwest. In Portland I started my freelance art career; doing every kind of work I could find pushing a pencil. From 06’ thru 16’ I worked alongside fellow members of the artist collective now known as Helioscope. I’ve gained experience in Storyboarding, Illustration, Game design, Character design, and every stage of making Comics.
In 2016 my partner and I decided to relocate to the Quad Cities of Iowa, where I spend my time making art, playing music, and trying new recipes.
